Lana Kelly (Crocker)
BKin, MScPT, FCAMPT
Lana graduated with a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in 2015. Prior to this, she completed an Honours degree in Kinesiology with a Minor in Psychology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Lana has worked in a private practice clinic setting since graduating and joined the team at Beaverbank Physiotherapy in 2016. She also works part-time at Dalhousie University as a laboratory instructor in the Masters Program at the School of Physiotherapy. She spends her time there teaching hands-on skills with the physiotherapy students during their musculoskeletal/orthopaedics semesters.
Lana is a strong believer in continuing education and using research-based treatments in her practice. Since graduating from Dalhousie, she completed her Diploma in Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy through the National Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association in 2019 (FCAMPT). This program involves completing four years of post-graduate courses specialized in hands-on physiotherapy and advanced clinical reasoning. In her treatment sessions with patients, she tends to use these manual therapy techniques, along with individualized exercise programs, pain management treatments, and education. She believes it is so important to empower her patients with knowledge regarding their injuries, the healing process and the purpose of their treatments, and she is also very passionate about spending time with her patients during their initial assessment to ensure accurate diagnoses are made and patient-centered goals can be set.
Lana believes a person’s physiotherapy experience should be an enjoyable one. She does her best to ensure her patients always feel comfortable in the clinic and she prides herself (and her colleagues) for always spending one-on-one time with each and every patient. She enjoys working with people of all ages and physical abilities, including pre- and post-operative patients, pregnant and postpartum women, teenage athletes, spinal issues from head to tailbone, weekend warriors and so on.
Lana is originally from a small town on the West coast of Newfoundland. She grew up spending most of her time either playing outside (usually in snow!) or playing sports. Her favourite sport was (and still is) hockey, but she also played golf and some recreational tennis. These days when she is not working, she keeps very busy with her son and two dogs (Sadie and Leo), and she also loves gardening, playing tennis with her husband, visiting Newfoundland and spending time with family and friends.
