Broken Collarbone/ Clavicle Fracture:
The collarbone is commonly broken when someone falls and breaks their fall with their hand or during direct impact, common in sports such as hockey. Symptoms include pain at the collarbone, decreased range of motion of the shoulder and deformity. Always consult medical attention if a fracture is suspected.

After the fracture is healed, treatment includes:
Education about the condition and how to avoid making it worse.

Therapeutic modalities to improve circulation and/or reduce inflammation and pain such as ultrasound, laser, interferential current, electrical muscle stimulation, acupuncture.

Exercises to stretch or strengthen the appropriate muscles or stabilize the joint.

Manual therapy to improve the movement in the area.

Sternoclavicular Joint Sprain/Dislocation :
The sternoclavicular joint is located where the collarbone meets the breastbone just below the throat region. This joint may be injured when you fall and land on an outstretched hand or during a car accident. Symptoms include pain over the joint and decreased arm movement.

Treatment includes:
Education about the condition and how to avoid making it worse.

Therapeutic modalities to improve circulation and/or reduce inflammation and pain such as ultrasound, laser, interferential current, electrical muscle stimulation, acupuncture.

Exercises to stretch or strengthen the appropriate muscles.

Manual therapy to improve the movement in the area.

Sling or immobilization bandage may be used initially to protect the healing joint.
